January — Beginning Again: The Practice of the New Start

Dear Member, Every January, I sit at my desk and write a letter I have been composing in my mind for the entire previous year. This is not a letter about resolutions. Resolutions imply that the previous version of you was insufficient. I do not believe that. This is a letter about beginning again — which is different. Beginning again honors everything you have already built, and simply asks: what will you add to it this year? For your skin, beginning again might look like this: reviewing your current routine with fresh eyes. Asking whether the products you have been using still serve you in this season of your life. Committing to one additional act of care — perhaps a daily face massage, perhaps keeping a small journal of observations. In Korean skincare philosophy, there is a concept called '시작의 아름다움' — the beauty of the beginning. Every new start carries within it all the potential of what it might become. You are at a beginning. Carry it with intention. With care, Yoon Hee Kim

The Glass Skin Myth — And What Korean Women Actually Do

Everyone wants glass skin. But most people are chasing the effect without understanding the cause. Glass skin — 유리 피부, yuuri pibu — is not a destination you arrive at with a specific product. It is the natural result of years of barrier care, hydration discipline, and the daily practice of gentle attention. When I was growing up watching my mother and grandmother care for their skin, I never saw them reach for twelve products. I saw them cleanse twice — first with an oil, then with foam — and then layer moisture so patiently and completely that by morning their skin simply glowed. The secret was not in what they used. It was in how they used it. Slowly. Consistently. With no urgency. If you want glass skin, start where they did: protect your barrier. Hydrate deeply. And decide, today, that you are playing a long game.

Week 1: Your Skin Has a Memory — And It's Time to Start Writing in It

Every skin journey begins with a single decision: to pay attention. Not to a trend. Not to a product someone recommended. To your own skin. When I started KDERMAI, I made a promise to myself — and to every person who would trust this platform. I promised that we would never sell the illusion of quick transformation. We would always tell the truth: beautiful, healthy skin is built slowly, day by day, season by season. Your skin has been carrying the history of your life — every late night, every period of stress, every season of joy. It remembers. And now, you are beginning to write a new chapter. This week, I ask just one thing: show up. Once in the morning. Once in the evening. That's all. You are not fixing your skin. You are beginning to know it.

The Ritual of Morning Light

Every morning when you cleanse your face, you are doing something deeply Korean — you are honoring the skin that carries your story. In Seoul, we call this 'skin morning.' It is not just skincare. It is a moment of presence before the world demands your attention. This week, I invite you to slow down your morning ritual. Feel the temperature of the water. Notice how your skin feels before and after. That awareness — that quiet attention — is the foundation of everything we do together at KDERMAI.

The Korean Beauty Philosophy of 'Pibu'

In Korean, we say 'pibu' — which translates roughly as skin, but carries so much more meaning. Pibu is your skin as living tissue. As expression. As a reflection of your inner health. Korean beauty has never been about covering up. It has always been about building the healthiest possible foundation. A glass-skin glow is not a cosmetic achievement — it is the result of years of barrier care, hydration, and protection. When you follow your KDERMAI routine, you are not just applying products. You are practicing pibu care — a philosophy that says your skin deserves long-term investment, not short-term fixes.

Summer Skin: What the Season Is Asking Of You

Summer changes everything. The UV index climbs. Humidity shifts. Your skin barrier is working harder than it did in winter. This is the season to simplify. Strip back the heavy products. Double down on sun protection. Prioritize hydration over actives. In Korean skincare tradition, we match our routine to the season — not the trends. Summer is a time for lightness, protection, and letting your skin breathe. This week, ask yourself: is my routine still serving my skin in this season, or am I following a winter habit into summer?

On Healthy Aging: A Letter from Seoul

Dear KDERMAI Member, In Korea, we do not fear aging. We prepare for it. We build the habits in our twenties that protect us in our fifties. We invest in the quiet rituals that compound over decades. Healthy aging is not about stopping time. It is about making the most of every year — with intention, with knowledge, and with the wisdom that comes from truly understanding your skin. This month, I want to focus on one idea: the skin you have at 60 is the result of the choices you made at 30. Not with anxiety — but with excitement. Because you are making those choices right now. Thank you for being here. Thank you for choosing the long view. With care, Yoon Hee Kim

Why Consistency Beats Intensity

I have seen it thousands of times in my career: a member finds a powerful product and immediately uses it every day, twice a day, at full strength. Within two weeks, their skin is reactive and irritated. The mistake was not the product. It was the pace. Skin transformation is not a sprint. It is a long, measured walk. Five minutes every morning. Five minutes every evening. Done with care, done consistently, done every day. The members who achieve the most extraordinary results are rarely the ones who do the most. They are the ones who show up the longest.

A Reflection on Beginning Again

There will be days when you skip your routine. When life gets in the way. When you look in the mirror and feel discouraged. I want you to know: beginning again is not failure. Beginning again is the practice. In Korean culture, we have a concept called 'dobok-haera' — which loosely means 'return to the practice.' It is not about perfection. It is about the act of returning. Over and over. With no judgment. The next time you skip a day and then come back, you are not behind. You are demonstrating the most important quality a KDERMAI member can have: the willingness to begin again.
